2024 Romeo & Juliet movie now criticized by conservatives for being too “woke”

The Jamie Lloyd Company, which is directing and stars Tom Holland as Romeo and Francesca Amewudah-Rivers as Juliet in Shakespeare's "Romeo & Juliet," has responded to a wave of racist remarks directed at a member of the cast. The company released a statement denouncing the online harassment. "Since the announcement of our 'Romeo & Juliet' cast, a member of our company has been the target of a deplorable online campaign of racial abuse." The statement said, "This has to end.

Furthermore, "Romeo & Juliet" has a sold-out run of performances at London's Duke of York's Theatre from May 23 to August 3. The production seeks to address the persistent problem of racial discrimination in the business by providing a secure and encouraging environment for all of its partners.
