A rare corpse flower in bloom was captured on camera by Facebook user Art Toh and posted to the Nature Society Singapore Facebook group on June 10, 2024.
Though they are uncommon, corpse flowers have been observed blooming in Singapore on previous occasions.
An uncommon sight
When Toh saw the flower at the Singapore Botanic Gardens, it seemed to be settling into a calm life.
Toh noted that, in contrast to most descriptions of the corpse flower, the flower had no scent. Usually, the plant smells awful.
According to Toh, the flower is roughly 30 cm in diameter, or the size of a "A4 paper".
Toh surmised that the corpse flower, which looks to be in its late blooming stage, will wilt within the following several days.
