By the end of 2025, HK actress Amy Yip and Jack Neo will open a hotel in Penang with a durian theme.

Jack Neo, a Singaporean filmmaker, has been named Creative Director for a hotel in Penang with a durian motif.

His first foray into themed hospitality is this one.

Amy Yip, an actress from Hong Kong, will also be involved in the project as the non-executive director of the hotel.

Yip said she is able to "support and celebrate durian culture in a meaningful way" because of the project.

Durian is a staple of Malaysian and Singaporean cuisine, and the hotel effort will highlight its celebration.

Hotel concept with a durian theme

The hotel with a durian motif is intended to provide both domestic and foreign guests with a distinctive experience.

Neo intends to include aspects from his durian-focused film "The King of Musang King" into the hotel's design, drawing on his background as a filmmaker.

The 2023 Singaporean-Malaysian comedy "The King of Musang King" was directed by Jack Neo and starred Yeo Yann Yann, Glenn Yong, and Mark Lee.

Highlights of the hotel include the following:

In addition to internal features like durian-themed walls and lighting, the hotel will have a façade that mimics durian husks.

A range of durian-based delicacies, including as coffee, ice cream, and durian hotpot, will be served at the hotel's restaurant.

To have a better knowledge of the cultural significance of the fruit, visitors can take part in activities including guided durian farm tours and a durian culture exhibition.

By showcasing the city's ethnic appeal and conserving its architectural heritage, the hotel project also seeks to revitalize Penang's heritage district.
