weenz miguelJun 141 min readThis is the reason that "Inside Out 2" affected me more at age 21 than the first film did at age 12.Though it may not seem like it, Pixar's animated feature "Inside Out" was originally released in theaters nine years ago.In the present, "Inside Out 2" is the talk of the town as it gets ready for release everywhere.Riley, the 13-year-old protagonist of this movie, is followed as she experiences puberty's ups and downs as well as the joys of being a teen.Four new feelings, ennui (a fancy word for "boredom"), anxiety, envy, and embarrassment, are helping her find her way through these uncharted seas.Despite the fact that I was considerably younger than Riley when the first film came out in 2015, I thought the second one was even more powerful now that I'm in my twenties.Incredibly relatableMy coworkers were horrified when I first admitted that I hadn't been all that wowed by the first "Inside Out" movie. After seeing it again right away during the second installment's screening, I'm positive that my first assessment is still valid. In contrast to the first film, which focused on the pain that 11-year-old Riley was going through after her family moved from Minnesota to San Francisco, Riley's experiences in "Inside Out 2" really spoke to me.Maybe people who are having a hard time adjusting to a new environment could relate to Riley in the first movie, but you probably wouldn't be able to relate to Riley too much until you've felt like a stranger yourself.Riley, however, has what is essentially the universal teenage experience in the second film: a desperate attempt to fit in while yearning for approval from others.
